I created a fan page for “facebook purity”, please join, for up to the minute news on releases and the very latest info, cheers. You can become a fan just by clicking the “Become a fan” button below, or you can visit the Facebook Purity fan page here: The Facebook Purity Page on Facebook
The annoying thing about creating the page was i had to name the page “face-book purity”, instead of “facebook purity”, as facebook dont allow people to use the word “facebook” in their page names, which means it doesnt show up if you do a search on their site :/ On top of that facebook are blocking links to my site, and not just my site the whole freehostia.com domain, how annoying! If you want to post a link to the facebook purity script on Facebook itself, please use the following link instead http://www.fbpurity.com-new it links to a flickr image with the link back to my site in the description of the image.

October 29th, 2009 | Posted in facebook, facebook purity | Comments Off on Become a fan of “Facebook Purity” on Facebook

I released a new version of my Facebook Purity greasemonkey script today (28th October 2009). It now has a new filter that blocks messages telling you “x became friends with y”, “x is attending an event”, “x joined a group” and “x became a fan of y” it only hides them, you can easily click the “extras x [ Show ]” link to see them if you want to. It just means there is less clutter and you can check out the more important messages like status updates, photos, links and notes first, before checking out other things like who became friends with who etc, if you are even interested in that stuff at all. I have left relationship messages out of the filter, as i think they dont crop up very often, and when they do appear they are quite interesting.

new release of the facebook purity greasemonkey script, for cleaning up your facebook homepage:
1.8e 26th Oct 2009 script now hides certain apps that were getting past the filter, and should also now be restricted to running on the homepage, also the blocked app message counter should work better now.
get it here: http://www.fbpurity.com
P.S the “block app” function doesnt seem to work 100% correctly. If after using the block app function, you visit the application’s homepage, you will see that the app is blocked, as there will be a link to “Remove Block from Application”. Though the app will still show up in the news feed, im still looking into why this is happening, seems like it could be a bug in facebook to me…
*UPDATE* there was a bug in the latest version of the script that caused the script to stop working, please clear your browser cache, then reinstall for the working version.

I’ve updated the facebook purity script to work with the latest code change at facebook, you can get the updated version here: http://www.fbpurity.com
N.B the script seems to be working fine now, but FB seem to be caching old data, as after blocking applications using the new “block app” function, the apps come back again if you refresh the page, even though they have already been blocked… strange, i hope they fix this…
October 23rd, 2009 | Posted in facebook, firefox, greasemonkey, programming | Comments Off on Facebook Purity Script Updated for New version of Facebook
Previously the Facebook Purity script would just hide the 3rd party application messages from your facebook homepage. Since reading that applications added by your friends can access your personal information even if you havent installed the app I decided to step up the protection FB Purity provides, it now adds a “Block App” link next to the usual “Hide” link facebook provides. Clicking this link will let you permanently block the application from your homepage, block it from accessing your personal information, stop people inviting you to add the application and also disallow any messages to be sent to you via the application.
Another important bit of information i read was that there is a setting you can change in your facebook privacy page, to disallow applications that your friends have added from accessing your personal information, I recommend that you all visit that page and untick all the permissions for info you dont want random facebook application developers to know about you. You can access that page here: Facebook Applications Privacy Page
Ive also changed the way the “Show/Hide” link at the top of the page works, when you click Show now, if there are some hidden application messages, the Show link, will now temporarily hide your homepage news feed, and just show the hidden application messages, this should make it easier to see what messages have been hidden, and check if they are important or not. If you dont want to see any more messages from that application i recommend you click the “Block App” link. Of course if you prefer the messages from a specific application not to be hidden by the script, you can edit the script’s whitelist, information on how to do this is here: http://whitelist.fbpurity.com
In this release I’ve also added the Blackberry facebook application to the default whitelist.
As always you can get the updated version of the Facebook Purity script here: http://www.fbpurity.com
N.B Remember if you have edited the whitelist in your previous version of the script, to copy the application IDs and paste them into the new version.
BTW the script hasnt been tested on Safari, as i dont have access to a Mac, so theres a slight chance this new version won’t work fully. If anyone is using the script on Safari, please let me know if it works, cheers.

Ive made a couple of minor updates to a couple of my Flickr Greasemonkey scripts.
FlickrPM – have added a relationship link (“RE”) that lets you check/change your relationship with the specified user. Also renamed the links for consistency. So we now have RE – relationship, DN – Flickr DNA, IN -Interestingness (by Darckr), SC – Flickr Scout
Flickr Group Pool : Warn and Delete -Added a flickrPM toobar to the warn and delete window (only works if flickr PM is installed)
These scripts along with all my other Flickr greasemonkey scripts are available here: http://steeev.freehostia.com/flickr

Ive updated the facebook purity script again, just a minor update. Ive optimised the script a bit, so it should run more efficiently and also added a few more applications to the whitelist ( tumblr, tweetdeck, digsby and networked blogs) have also removed livingsocial from the whitelist.
N.B If you have edited the whitelist in your copy of the script: Before updating to the new version, copy your whitelist IDs from the current script, and then after installing the new version, paste them into the correct place. If you havent edited the whitelist, you dont need to worry about it.
The updated version of the script can as always be obtained from http://www.fbpurity.com
