F.B Purity updated to v3.4a – various fixes including “hide get connected box”

fb purity logo

I’ve fixed the F.B Purity script to work with Facebook’s latest code change, which was causing the “get connected box” to be displayed, even if you had selected to hide it. Also fixed a freezeup in google chrome when creating a new friend list and a bug in the custom text filter, that would cause the script to stop working if you put a bracket in the custom text filter field.

F.B Purity Rated Number 2 in Lifehacker’s Top 10 Facebook Usability and Privacy Fixes

I was really pleased to see that F.B Purity was rated number 2 in Lifehackers Top 10 Facebook Usability and Privacy Fixes article :)

Well as there dont seem to be any other scripts / extensions in their top 10, technically i guess Fluff Busting Purity is their number 1 Facebook script / extension :)

F.B Purity (Fluff Busting) now available as a Safari Extension – It Cleans up your Facebook homepage

I’ve created a Safari Extension out of F.B Purity, the Facebook Homepage cleaning script, which is now compatible with Safari 5.

N.B if you have the script version installed via GreaseKit or NinjaKit, you should disable or uninstall it before installing the new extension version of FBP otherwise you might get strange results in your browser.

You can get the extension here: F.B Purity (formerly known as Facebook Purity) – Cleans up your FB Homepage

F.B Purity lets you hide Facebook Places messages (Checked in to location)

I just released v3.3 of F.B Purity, the browser extension / GM script for Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari and Opera, that cleans up your Facebook homepage.

New in this release: a new hideable extra that allows you to hide updates from the new Facebook Places feature, i think this is currently only available in the USA, so if you are not yet seeing these updates in your news streams, theres no need for you to update your current version of the script if you already have it installed.

The new hideable extra is called “Changed location” and can be selected to be hidden by ticking the new box on the FBP options screen.

BTW its worth having a look at the new privacy settings regarding this new Facebook feature, Wired have an article about it here.

As always the latest version of the FBP script can be obtained here: F.B Purity (formerly known as Facebook Purity)

geotagging flickr with google earth script updated for new photo page

I’ve updated my geotagging flickr with google earth greasemonkey script, so it works on the new photo page. it now adds a “Add to map via G.E.” link just below the “This photo was taken on” text.

It also adds a “Add to map via Google Earth” link to the “Location” menu in the Flickr batch organiser, so you can geotag batches of images via Google Earth too.

If you already have the “Flickring Geotagger” network link setup in Google Earth, (the link should be to the steeev.site50.net server) you just need to reinstall the GM script, in order to get it working again, otherwise you will need to edit the network link to point to steeev.site50.net.

More info on how to get the script working is here: Geotagging Flickr with Google Earth

I also updated my flickr contacts organiser script, to increase the visibility of the search function, by adding an always visible search box, that lets you search your tagged group’s images.

I was shocked to find Softonic.com Offering my Script Fluff Busting Purity for Sale and Download Without my Permission

Thanks to yahoo site explorer i found out that softonic.com a website offering software downloads is illegally hosting my FB Purity greasemonkey script and also even more shockingly, charging people to be able to download it!!! outrageous! what a dodgy company! I have contacted them to get it removed, but have had no response so far. they have no rights to be hosting my script and even worse charging for it, outrageous!

It seems they trawl the web looking for free software, grab it, stick it on their website and charge people to download it, all without consulting the developers and with no regard to their copyright.

New extension for Safari 5 called NinjaKit lets you install GM scripts

I just found some great news for Safari 5 users. Theres a new extension called NinjaKit by a Japanese programmer 0xFF that lets you install greasemonkey scripts. Its a much simpler process to install than Greasekit, whereas greasekit required you to also install SIMBL, this extension is self contained and PC + Mac compatible, just install the Ninjakit extension and you can then click on any greasemonkey script link to install the greasemonkey scripts.

The extensions home page is here: http://d.hatena.ne.jp/os0x/20100612/1276330696
and heres an english translation, for those of us who dont speak japanese.

To install NinjaKit you just need to click the “Safari for NinjaKit” link (UPDATE Please note the extension link wont work in the translated page, you need to click it in the original page)

Once you’ve installed that you can then install any greasemonkey script you like, of course not all will be compatible but a lot should be.

Ive tested 3 of my scripts so far on it, Fluff Busting Purity (for Facebook), Flickr : Multi Group Sender and Flickr PM and it seems to work fine :)

Enjoy! :)
